| POLLUTION PREVENTION AND RESPONSE POLICY FOS Ltd policy on oil pollution can be summarised and prioritized as follows :- Prevention ....................... Prevent oil spill occurring Watercourse Protection .. Prevent oil reaching sea or watercourse Containment .................... Prevent oil in water spreading to other areas Recovery .......................... Recover and properly dispose of oil spill emulsion Clean Up .......................... Clean up spill affected areas and properly dispose of debris Report and Co-operate .... Report larger spills and co-operate in response and clean up Familiarisation with the companyís Oil Pollution Control Manual (OPCM) is imperative for all employees. The company will :- Ensure awareness of all employees in the necessary procedures, responses and actions; Train all employees to the stated levels; Exercise all employees in the contents of OPCM and use of company equipment; External organisations have been included on the OPCM Distribution List in order to provide details of the capabilities and restrictions of FOS in dealing with an oil spill. The OPCM has been written to reflect :- The development and diversification of FOS operations; Recent changes in legislation affecting national and local procedures and plans;and, The stated aims of the companyís Environmental Policy While all employees can feel justifiably proud of the company history involving fifteen years of virtually spill-free operations I take this opportunity of warning everyone against complacency. Company operations continue to take place within extremely enviro-sensitive areas. Any pollution, on land or sea and however small, is considered serious and could jeopardise the future of the company as well as harming the environment.
